A while back i told you about a proposal to overturn the ban on commercial activity at the Cape Town stadium and plans to build a nightclub on the premises along with restaurants, bars and coffee shops to recover some of the costs required to run it.
Well the City of Cape Town has just approved the proposal to rezone the stadium in Green Point for commercial activity.
In the past no commercial activity was allowed at the stadium after Green Point residents objected saying it would increase noise levels and traffic volumes.
Grumpy residents in the area are not gonna be happy.
“Tourism and events executive director Anton Groenewald would now ask the provincial government to amend the land use rights for the Cape Town stadium, its forecourt and Green Point Park, the Cape Times reported.”
“According to the report, the city wants to develop suites in the stadium, let commercial space to retail outlets and companies and set up temporary hospitality facilities in the forecourt.” [iAfrica]
What do you reckon?
Good thing to recover some of the running costs or dumb idea that will increase noise, traffic and problems in the area?
