Here’s some useless Chappies bubblegum info for you. Matt Groenig, the creator of the The Simpsons has ended speculation over the real life location of Springfield, the town the popular cartoon is set in.
Groenig said in an interview yesterday that ‘”Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon’.
Since the shows creation 25 years ago (bet you feel old now hey), Groenig has kept his inspiration for the town of Springfield a mystery but revealed it it in an interview with the Smithsonian magazine yesterday.
“The creator of the iconic cartoon sitcom The Simpsons has finally revealed the inspiration behind the show’s fictional town of Springfield.
Matt Groening told Smithsonian magazine he based the town on Springfield, Oregon, but since it is such a common US place name he knew many would think it was their own Springfield.
The Springfield question is one of the best-kept secrets in TV history.” [BBC]
