Ya hey…when trying to convince the masses that your church leader does not indulge in luxury and opulence and has the best interest of the poor at heart it’s not ideal to photoshop out his R235 000 watch and then fail to remove to the reflection.
On the Russian Orthodox Church website for leader Patriarch Kirill I his $30 000 Breguet wristwatch did a miraculous disappearing act, but was picked up by Russian bloggers after they spotted it’s reflection.
And if that isn’t fail enough, the website has now included the original picture saying it was a ‘technical mistake’, but wait the mess doesn’t stop there.
The holy leader’s response…he insists that he never wore the watch and the image was altered.
Here’s the original image.
And more on his response.
“The church apologized for the deception on Thursday and restored the original photo to the site, but not before Patriarch Kirill weighed in, insisting in an interview with a Russian journalist that he had never worn the watch, and that any photos showing him wearing it must have been doctored to put the watch on his wrist. . .” [NY Times]
Nice try pal.
