MasterchefSA reveals Top 18 contestants, Half Arsed-a-Chef Gumboot Puree [video]
Posted by on Apr 3rd, 2012

So last night the 3rd episode of MasterchefSA aired and the judges narrowed down the kitchen gimps from 25 hopefuls to the Top 18 contestants who will go to Nederberg Wine estate to compete for the title of best tv chef in SA.

I’ll be honest i did not watch the show, but i heard lots of talk about one of the judges who’s jacket didn’t fit properly as well as people on social networks saying the show is trying to hard to copy the international versions.

I recognise none of the top 18 contestants apart from one, Ilse Fourie who i’ve known for decades. Back when her name was still Ilse Nel and i hope she wins the whole damn thing. She knows the how to use oil effectively.

Nicely done meisie.

Here’s the rest of the Top 18.

Fortune Kangueehi
Lwazi Mngoma
Berdina Schurink
Khayakazi Silingile
Manisha Naidu
Mmutsi Maseko
Sarel Loots
Brandon Law
Thys Hattingh
Samantha Nolan
Charles Canning
Sue-Ann Allen
Guy Clark
Babalwa Baartman
Ilse Fourie
Jade de Waal
Deena Naidoo
Lungile Nhlanhla [list via Channel24]

Ya…they coulda at least thrown in some token folks that people recognise hey. Maybe a celebrity MasterchefSA woulda been a better option.

Kinda like the NoMU online spoof series Half Arsed-a-Chef. Contestants include Liezel Van der Westhuizen, Richard Hardiman and some other legends. Hey even yours truly made an appearance along with some words from Helen Zille. Last week’s episode had the contestants make a boerewors tower and this week sees them create a tomoto puree made by squishing fresh tomotoes in gumboots with extra points handed out for a well choreographed routine. Check it.

Props to the judges for drinking that mess.

Good times.

I think its total waste of space like the USA show, the Australian show was the benchmark and neither has lived up to it. I do hear good things about the British one on twitter though so if I wonder DSTV will air it.
