I’m not too clue’d up on the ins and outs of beauty pageants, but someone sent me this article over the weekend and i’m not sure what to make of it. It mentioned that the new Miss Bikini SA 2011 winner was recently crowned and she’s Sasha Lee Gush, a 16 year old school girl from Pretoria.
Is it just me or does it make anyone else feel uncomfortable to be judging a 16 year old in a competition that’s essentially boobs and bum? And find it weird that the newspaper felt it was necessary to include a pic of her in school uniform.
Wasn’t sure whether i was the only one who would find this strange so i sent a message to a friend and he reckons it’s also odd that a country with a high incidence of violent crime against women would allow such a young girl to represent them in a bikini competition.
Anyway here’s the article:
“Her eyes might be set on the international stage and the world title, but for Pretoria teenager Sasha-Lee Gush her studies remain top priority.
The Grade 11 Pretoria School for Girls pupil snatched the national Miss Bikini title in a contest held in Pretoria last week.
Now she’s packing for the Mediterranean island of Malta to take part in the international leg of the beauty pageant next week.” [iol]
Lemme know if you agree or if i’m looking into this too much?
